This is a character analysis of Tyrion Lannister, one of the most popular characters on one of the most popular TV Series of all time, ‘Game of Thrones.’

Tyrion Lannister is the youngest child of Johanna Lannister and Tywin Lannister, who was the Lord of Casterly Rock, the ancestral house of the Lannisters.

His siblings are Cersei Lannister and Jaime Lannister.

He was born as a Dwarf, and his mother died giving birth to him. These two reasons became enough for almost everyone around to hate him, including his own family. They are not stupid enough to not understand that dying during childbirth is not uncommon, but they refuse to acknowledge it. Jaime is the only one who he ever received love from. He was there with Tyrion when no one else was. He gives him much support during his hard times when everyone else is hell-bent against him.

When he was born, rumours started spreading around about him, stuff like he was born with a tail, claws, red-eye, and privates of both a girl and a boy. Cersei wanted to kill him and was anticipating his death since everyone around them was saying that he would die soon. They talked about the monster that was born. He lived through his painful childhood with no one else to love him except Jaime. He has suffered physical and mental torture at the hands of society. All he ever wanted was to be treated like a normal person.

He grows up to be an educated, witty, and fearless person who knows how to get himself out of any tricky situation using his wisdom. Many describe him as the smartest man in all of the Seven Kingdoms, which make up the continent of Westeros. He is regularly taunted and humiliated by people, but he gets used to them calling him such things.

He once tells Jon Snow (a bastard) that a person should wear his/her weakness as armour since people around him/her will always remind him/her of his/her weakness. He tells him not to forget what he is since the rest of the world will not. This way, it will never be used to hurt him. This is one piece of advice that is useful for everyone.

He has a great sense of humour which he exhibits even in the tensest of situations.

He always has kindness and a heart for people whom the world perceives as outcasts. He is an open-minded person who is willing to accept people for what they are, not how society perceives them to be.

He falls in love with a prostitute named Shae when the rest of the world treats prostitutes as something beneath humans. She takes time to realise that he does not judge her and loves her for what she is. When he is the Hand of the King, he takes her along with him to the capital and makes her handmaiden to his wife, Sansa Stark. Tywin gets to know of this and threatens to kill her if he is ever found with her again. Worried about her safety, he decides to send her off away from King’s Landing by asserting that he cannot marry a prostitute, thinking that this is the only way she will leave him. He is someone who can tolerate being hated for the greater good. This is an important personality trait, which is a real sign of maturity.

One of the most painful incidents in Tyrion’s life happened when he was sixteen. He gets secretly married to a peasant girl named Tysha. Both of them had spent two weeks together as Husband and Wife. Upon being confronted by Tywin, Jaime confesses that he set up the girl and her would-be rapists to make Tyrion feel like a girl truly loved him. The truth is that she did start to love him over time.

Outraged that he planned to marry a commoner, Tywin makes his guards rape and pay her. He makes Tyrion watch. This incident traumatizes him, leading to one of the worst heartbreaks possible. He feels like he married a prostitute until he meets Shae, who makes him realise that all of this was set up by his father. This incident takes his hatred for his father to new heights.

Tyrion also goes through a trial for allegedly murdering the King, Joffery Baratheon, the incest born son of Cersei and Jaime.

The trial gets set up by Tywin to frame him for the crime he did not commit. He always wanted to kill him. Tyrion is hell-bent on not giving his life for Joffery’s murder.

He goes through a dramatic emotional outburst during the Trial, which showcases his real personality. He also gets betrayed by various people, including Shae, who give testimony against him, fueling his outburst. He demands a Trial by Combat in which Prince Oberyn volunteers to fight for him. Unfortunately, both Oberyn and the person he is fighting (the mountain) die. He is let out of detention by his brother before being killed, who wants him to escape Kings Landing along with Lord Varys, the Master of Whispers.

Before leaving, he first kills Shae after finding her in Tywin’s bed. He then kills Tywin while he is on the toilet. This incident makes us understand the depth of his personality. He is someone who murdered his father and lover as he was treated in the worst manner. He is also someone who treats good people properly, no matter their status.
